This is an appeal to current or ex-members of the SNP and is made in good faith.
We’ve made no secret of the fact that we favour Alba and want to encourage the growing interest in constitutional matters as championed by SALVO/Liberation Scotland/Alf Baird/Sara Salyers/Colette Walker/Leanne Tervit and a host of other admirable folk who have become well-kent names in the independence movement despite never having held any ‘political’ positions.
Our appeal is a straightforward request for a wee bit of honesty. We’re not asking for anyone to betray anyone else or ‘blow the whistle’.
It’s a simple question: have you ever heard SNP politicians (at whatever level) discussing plans for independence ‘off the record’? By that we mean ‘not knowingly in the presence of journalists’.
The reason we ask is that it has become very difficult to imagine that anyone in the Scottish government has been conducting any serious discussion about strategy/tactics regarding independence. There is no evidence that Shona Robison (Deputy First Minister) has ever had a discussion with Humza Yousaf, private or otherwise, about the movement ‘going forward’.

We have asked respondents to suggest possible replacements. So far, only Kate Forbes and Fergus Ewing have been named. We find ourselves unable to suggest anyone else.
So, our appeal is this - has anyone witnessed currently-serving SNP MSPs (or MPs for that matter) having discussions about medium-to-long-term strategy for securing independence?
We’re not expecting anyone to divulge names, places, dates etc.
We would just like to know if such discussions are happening at all, and if not, why not?
