Scots Online: What Are We Like!?

‘Scots’ as they appear to the online world.

In a previous post we looked at images of Scots as presented to the world via the 2014 referendum campaign.

Off-Topic Scotland | As Ithers See Us? (offtopicscotland.com)

Here we present more imagery of ‘Scots’ as represented in a typical online image search.

These appear in no particular order. The selection methodology is random i.e. we start with a search for ‘Scottish people’ in images and see where it leads, whittling away the more obvious/boring cliches and tropes until, eventually, we see which Scots, if any, appear to be normal people. The images below represent no more than 10-15% of the images viewed. (The sheer scale of cliche and repetition is difficult to convey.)

As usual, we have to mention that this material has been gathered and presented ‘for educational purposes’ and no copyright has knowingly been infringed. Some images are clearly marked as coming from stock libraries but if anyone objects to specific images being included here please let us know why via offtopicscotland@protonmail.com and they will be removed.

At this point we will put a halt to actual pipers - just too many of them. Let’s see what we have left when they’re excluded…
