I Do Solemnly Swear...

If MSPs are obliged to swear an oath of allegiance, to whom should it be pledged?

I Do Solemnly Swear...

A recent OTS poll asked whether or not MSPs should be pledging allegiance to King Charles.

The answer was overwhelming - 90% said 'No'.

That got us thinking - who should they be making the oath to?

Should they be making an oath at all?

If Scots are sovereign then the answer is obvious.

So, here's our very simple wee version - an oath to be taken by every new MSP.

'I do solemnly swear to do this job to the best of my ability and hereby pledge allegiance to the people of Scotland.'

If anyone would like to tweak that or offer alternatives, please do so in comments below.
