Cursing, not Swearing

Cursing, not Swearing

The boy in our image is AI-generated.

Here's the instruction we gave for the illustration:

'small child (male, 7 or 8 years old) in Glasgow housing scheme, filthy, shabbily dressed, needs a haircut. The road behind him is a mess, covered in trash, stray dogs visible. The boy is staring at the viewer, blowing a 'raspberry' (his tongue is out, cheeks puffed and has two fingers raised in 'V' sign).

For some reason the AI decided to ignore the last part of our description and so the wee lad has his hands in pockets. Perhaps the AI didn't like the aggression involved and made a unilateral decision to calm the boy down. The image is not what we were looking for - we wanted something to illustrate being told to GTF by someone who doesn't care - but it is striking enough in its own way.

Regular readers will have noticed that we enjoy doing Twitter/X polls. This latest is still ongoing and doesn't close until this evening but the outcome is not in doubt and the % breakdown has been steady since it opened on Friday.

Given that it is a statistical inevitability that a certain % of any large number of people will be mischiefs, halfwits or genuinely confused by the question, we can say with some confidence that this is a close to 'GTF' as it's possible for a Twitter poll to be.

What is striking is the indignance of some respondents i.e. many don't appear to know that this 'oath-taking' business is real. (We even had someone asking who had proposed the idea.)

A wee poll on OTS is not going to have anyone shaking in their boots but we would suggest to the good folk of SALVO/ISP/Liberation Scotland and all other interested bodies that it they want to get people united on the constitutional argument, this is a good place to start.
