Trendy Dude...

by Rab Clark

We bring happy news that the hashtag #EndTheUnion is gathering sufficient support to have started trending on Twitter. That's according to some respondents to the following tweet:

Ian Brotherhood on X: "Can someone else please tweet #EndTheUnion and check at which letter it appears in the drop-down as an option (if at all)? Thanks. Someone said it's started appearing automatically as an choice but it's not yet, for me anyway. https://t.co/giIWDZUHVF" / X (twitter.com)

We covered this a couple of months ago when discussing what slogans or hashtags people would favour using if they chose to 'spoil' their ballot papers in upcoming elections. Since then we've gone with #EndTheUnion and have been trying to remember to tweet it every day. We kept forgetting and so we recruited a person wearing a gorilla suit (who we've called 'Archie') to help us and he's been doing it daily for a couple of weeks.

So far we haven't seen #EndTheUnion trending via our account but it's possible that we missed it. The screenshots in some of the replies to the tweet above seem genuine enough and there's no reason to suspect that anyone would go to all the trouble of faking its appearance.

So it's a positive development.

For readers who would like to help, we suggest the adoption of one of the many weird and wonderful 'characters' available via the GIF function on Twitter/X. Archie remains our favourite and we'll be sticking with him but it would be nice to see a variety of characters championing the same hashtag.

Thumbs up abody!!
